Why does Singapore has this rather ridiculous rule of preventing people under 16, and/or in school uniform from heading into Arcades/Lan Shops?

After a day of hard mugging and listening to old geezers droning on during tutorials and lectures, I think everyone should be allowed to head into a Lan shop and destress.

Unfortuntately, people (e.g. me) who wants to relax by trashing some random n00bs in DOTA is forced to change a T-shirt, before heading into the shop which requires a check of I/C. While this measure is good for people who are above the age of 16, which means that the shops will usually not be crowded, the rule itself, is something which is somewhat of a joke.

There are shops out there who just let anyone in. It shows how bad business is for the Lan Shop community. They usually earn something during the weekends and the holidays. But then, what about the rest of the days? They pay rent for the entire month, not just for the weekends. Hence, the shops are forced to rely on people, such as me, to help keep their shop running, if they do not want to resort to illegal measures. Unfortunately, people who are above 16 have a rather hectic schedule (A levels in 12 weeks!), and our free time is extremely low compared to those in Sec 1. Heck, I can play CS everyday in Sec 1 and somehow still get promoted. If I did anything like that now, I'm utterly screwed.

So, seriously, such a stupid rule should be gotten rid of like 10 years ago. Look at Hong Kong, just anyone can head to Lan Shops, at anytime of the day, irregardless of what you are wearing. My cousin invited me to a class outing which involved a Lan Shop, and we basically filled up only 1/4 of the shop. And that's around 16 of us (8v8 CS/UT2004/R6). That's how big some of the Lan Shops in Hong Kong are. Also, it isn't that kind of crap Pentinum 2 computers that some Lan Shops still own, but are some of the rather high end computers which is still considered decent now. It just goes to show how much the shops are earning, when they are not restricted.

People who will counter the removal of the ban will be parent watch-dog groups and all that pile of filth who thinks that what they do is the best for every children in the world. C'mon, everyone has self-disclipine, or else why would they open Computer Labs for Lan Gaming in schools? Sure, it's just a few schools, but if the students are still able to obtain excellent results, then why can't the rest of country be allowed to try? This isn't something like Chewing Gum or some uclear Power Plant experiment, where if the acid test fails, everyone is screwed. Sure, Singapore is a country that focuses a lot on education, but must every single second of a student's free time be used for studing?

It's just insane. There must be a time for studing, and there must be a time to relax.

All work no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Get rid of that rule already, so that money can start exchanging hands....

Song of (whatever) changed to Sakurairo no Kisetsu by yozuca* (with the star!), which is Da Capo Second Season's opening theme. A rather decent anime that focuses more on Romance and that kind of stuff.
